About Noah's Ark

A charity that was formed in 1998, Noah's Ark Trust was set up to support children and young people through what may seem like their darkest moments.

Nothing can compare to the loss of a parent whom they thought would be there for them all through their lives. Indeed, their darkest hour, or that is how it feels at the time, until they make the Noah's Ark journey towards a brighter future.

Bereavement arising from suicide

Coming to terms with bereavement is difficult enough for an adult, but for a child or young person it must be unimaginable. That is until they meet the people at Noah's Ark. A team of trained staff and volunteers will support them, and their parent or carer, through their grief and help them on the road to recovery through one to one support and a residential weekend. The Noah's Ark service is free to families in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Our service can be accessed through referral by a professional, such as a GP, or directly by bereaved families.

Peer Mentor Programme

The Peer mentor Programme works in Schools with young people to help them understand the impact of bereavement and loss.

Adolescence is frequently described as the "period of storm and stress" due to rapid biological, psychological and social changes in a young person's life. In addition bereaved children frequently feel isolated in their grief. Teachers and other professionals working with young people on a day to day basis generally do not receive any training on issues surrounding bereavement.

Children facing loss or separation in their lives also experience similar feelings to bereaved children, including isolation. An isolated child is a vulnerable child and so is frequently subjected to bullying. They maybe held back in life by trauma and other difficult emotions as they are growing up. This can have a long term effect including low self esteem, mental health issues, violence, addiction to drink or drugs, educational disadvantage and dietary problems.
